"A Film Unfinished" Review Justin Middleton

“A Film Unfinished” was a very informative film, however it was a major tragedy. Although I missed the first half of it on Friday, I feel like I can adequately respond to how the film influenced me. It was very clear that the German gentleman that was being interviewed was not proud of the things he was having to film. Most likely the people that were doing the actual filming didn’t know exactly what was being asked of them in the first place.
The scene where the Jews were asked to eat gourmet meals in a restaurant and the waitresses were forced to act a certain way to make the Jews look as if they were better than everyone else. Although it was somewhat of a smart tactic to accomplish what they wanted, evil doesn’t even begin to describe it.
The film seemed to make an about face when it began to show the living conditions of the Jews in the ghetto. They appeared filthy and didn’t look as if they were being fed enough. According to the interviews they were not even allow to look down at the corpses that lined the streets. It was extremely sad to see the dead bodies. They must have not been feeding them at all. Everyone deserves the right to bury their dead in an honorable way. The way the Nazi’s were disposing of the dead bodies was disgraceful.
Apparently it wasn’t enough for the Nazi’s to commit genocide. In this film they showed their intent to do more. They chose to film the atrocities they were about. Unfortunately what came shortly after this video was made is a tragedy. It is also hard to believe that the these were some of the more humane things that were done to the Jews considering what all was done to them during the Holocaust.

  1. Genocide is not merely mass murder of people but also of spirit. If you kill 6 million people that are of no relation to you, no one cares but if you make everyone see those people die, especially people you have lived with and known your whole life, then your spirit dies. With no spirit there is no will to fight or survive and the genocide continues...

  2. I have heard and read that many of the Germans say that they were unaware of what was actually taking place with the Jewish people. That the Nazi regime was keeping all of this hidden behind a curtain. I have also heard that many of the Germans refuse to believe and even act as though this never even happened. To what extent that is true I don't know but when the Nazi was being interviewed I wondered if he was truly sorry for his actions or if he like many played the dumb card to exonerate himself.

  3. In the defense of the German people and even some of the Nazis, they didn't have a choice. When you have a strong political leader who is very influential making these changes to a country its hard to stop. A lot of us believe that we can't make a change individually, I'm sure that's how they felt as well. I personally feel that they were just trying to live their lives as well, their actions were probably because of their fear that the same thing would happen to them if they didn't cooperate.

  4. I totally agree that these were probably some of the more humane things done to the Jews. The Germans knew that they were filming and would film things like this. Think about what they did that is not on film though.

  5. I really liked your points that you made in this response. And agreeing with Doug, it really does make you think about what was not on film.

  6. I was also goe on Friday so I can understand where you are coming from. It was not hard to conclude what you did. This stuff could give anyone nightmares, and we are just blessed to not have been alive in this era!

  7. I couldnt agree more!
Everyone deserves to be buried in an honorable way. The fact that so many were not given this chance, is extremely sad.

  8. Agreed, being properly buried would have been the more humane action instead of piling them up like dead animals, which abosolutly horrible

  9. You make a good point. It is obvious that they have absolutely NO respect for those people or for the value of life in general, considering how they would even treat the ones who passed away.
