"A Film Unfinished" Review

Watching "A Film Unfinished" really made my stomach turn. I simply cannot believe the Hell that those people had to go through. One of the things that repatedly went through my mind was that being in the ghetto was not even the worst part! The concentration camps were. The ghettos were horrible, yes. But the actual concentration camps were worse. With basicically everytone that was on screen at any time who was a Jew, you could see how malnurished they were and how sickly they looked. And the fact that you could see on the movie how horribly they were treated. I simply cannot fathom living in an enviornment or a sitituation like that. It makes me wonder what the film crew had to have been thinking. How could they keep their sanity while filming that? Even if they themselves hated the Jews how could someone stand by and not only watch, but FILM, that going on the entire time. Did that not drive them mad? I really cannot beleive what man is capable of doing sometimes. It is unbelieveable to me that there can be so much death and suffering around that there are dead bodies on the street every morning and it is a NORMAL occourance, that there is a mountain of human waste in the middle of town, and that dogs are treated better than other human beings. One of the scenes that hit me the most was when the kids were cought smuggling food in the ghetto. The Germans had them dump and shake out their coats and shirts and boots to get all of the food out. It just blows me away that those kids were only trying to feed themselves and probably their families. And the worst part of it is that the Germans wouldn't allow it. I believe that knowing our past is essential to making sure that we don't make the same mistakes twice. That is an unbelievably horrible stain on our past as human beings.

  1. So true. My dad was telling me that there are some accounts of Nazi officers when they tried firing squads; the writings start out somewhat sane, then as the killings progress steadily become absolutely insane.

  2. Genocide and slaughter has stained the human psyche since the beginning of our existence... Unfortunately, it takes somewhere around 6 million deaths before people seem to want to do a whole lot about it. We live in a cruel world and if we don't learn from the evil people in the past, we can't stop evil people in the present and future

  3. The scene of the children stealing food was a hard thing for me to stomach as well. I can't remember but didn't it say if you were caught stealing you were shot? This event is disgusting... I too cannot believe that humans can be so heartless as to watch another person man women child starve literally to death while beating them as they cling to life... I couldn't hardly watch.

  4. That scene really bothered me too. They had to know that these people were starving so why couldn't they pretend not to notice they were stealing food. I don't understand hating people so much that you don't care if they die. or maybe they were scared of being punished if they didn't catch them, but they were only children. starving children.

  5. It really blows my mind as well how these camera men could actually sit there and record for hours and hours on end and not feel any remorse! You bring up a good point that this wasnt even the worst part yet still hard to watch and imagine how they felt.

  6. The things you pointed out here really got me motivated. Your review was very influential. I feel more strongly about this issue now than I did when I wrote my review...Thank you.
