Reasons to Avoid Plagarism

According to Prentice Hall Reference Guide, there are four primary reasons not to plagarize someone elses work(Harris). The first reason is simply that plagiarism is stealing someone elses original thought. In my opinion it is not just a question of academic integrity but it brings ones entire credibility. Which according to Harris, this is the third reason listed as to why plagiarism should be avoided. Credibility. By using ones own thoughts based on research of someone elses work with correct documentation builds credibility of the writer. Harris listed as the second reason to avoid plagiarism is that it defeats the purpose of education. And that seems logical because you do not learn anything by simply copying someone elses work. And the final reason given against plagiarism is that it can have serious consequences. If found to have commited plagiarism, your school may impose any number of penalties, up to and not excluding expulsion. In a professional career it can lead to dismissal from a job,and furthermore public humiliation and in some instances you can be held lible for infrigement on copyright laws.
